Servicing Oil Fired Boilers

Making sure your oil-fired boiler and heating system is serviced regularly will keep it at its most efficient. This reduces your fuel bill and will also help to save money on unexpected breakdowns and heating engineer call out charges.

Oil is a fuel that can be easy contaminated and this severely can affect the system’s efficiency and reliability.

Most equipment manufacturers recommend an annual service and regular maintenance is very important for an oil system to ensure its continued operation. Unlike most gas boilers, an oil boiler services involves a lot of actual cleaning and regular renewal of perishable parts.

Breakdowns & Installations

An oil boiler works the same way as a gas boiler to be installed that it uses fuel to create hot water. This hot water is then distributed to the radiators around the house and is used to create warmth. The same hot water is also supplied to the taps in the house.

The key difference between oil and gas boilers is the fuel used. Rather than being connected to a gas supply, an oil boiler is connected to an oil tank, where fuel is stored until it is needed.

If looked after and maintained well Oil boilers are designed to be robust and durable. Often, they can last for up to 15 years, or even longer.

Oil Tank Replacement

Unvented Cylinder Services

It is highly recommended that you have an annual cylinder service to prevent unwanted repairs. Unvented hot water cylinders are pressurised systems which are fed directly from the cold mains water feed. Therefore, they can deliver hot water at mains pressure, which greatly improves the performance of your shower and bath, which makes a huge difference.

A cylinder service is a visual inspection and does not require the stripping down or dismantling of the cylinder.

Power Flushing

If sludge and debris is not removed from heating systems, it can accumulate in radiators, pipework and heat exchangers, causing severe blockages. Not many people have heard about power flushing. It’s not until an engineer has informed you that your system is blocked or high amounts of sludge present in the system causing flow issues.

Power flushing is a popular method of cleaning and maintaining a central heating system. It is a is a cleaning unit that sends water at high velocity through the system to dislodge and remove debris, limescale, and sludge build-up. A thorough power flush will improve heat distribution throughout the property, subsequently lowering household energy bills and increasing system reliability. This has to be done by a qualified engineer.

The power flush can take anywhere from 4 hours to 8 hours depending on the size of the property and how many radiators are on the system.

AGA / Vaporising appliance services

It is recommended with an AGA it is serviced annually on the basis of running effectively and safely. If there are long-term lapse in the servicing it may result in sudden extinguishing of the AGA.
